Hello

I'm trying to set up my NanoStation loco M5 to form a WDS with a Netgear WNDR3700, both running DD-WRT. I've attached a diagram showing my setup to this post. Right now I have left the ASUS router out of the picture, and I'm connected directly to the NanoStation via cable, to make sure that this is working before getting the ASUS router to work as an AP.

I've set up the NanoStation as per the instructions here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WDS_Linked_router_network#Atheros_Based_Devices_and_WIFI_cards
Its IP is 192.168.1.3, DHCP is turned off and its gateway and DNS is set to 192.168.1.2.
The ath1 wireless device of the WNDR3700 (5 GHz radio) is set up also according to these instructions (WDS AP). And the SSID of the NanoStation matches that of the Netgear's ath1.
Wireless security is turned off.

Note that the Netgear router (192.168.1.2) isn't acting as a DHCP server. The ZyXEL router is (IP: 192.168.1.1). The Netgear router is set up as a DHCP Forwarder (to 192.168.1.1) under Setup->Basic Setup


When I login to the NanoStation (IP: 192.168.1.3) and run dmesg, this is what I get:

NanoStation is running build 19342 (from here: ftp://www.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/06-08-12-r19342/ubnt_Loco_M5/LC5M-DD-WRT.bin). As far as I remember, I upgraded from the AirOS webui using this image.
Netgear AP is running build 17201 ("DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/14/11) std - build 17201").

Didn't know about the Site Survey feature until now. It shows the network I'm trying to connect to:

Right. When I connect to the Netgear's network using the Site Survey function on the NanoStation, nothing appears in the Netgear's dmesg. The following was there before I connected, and it didn't change after I tried connecting (even though the NanoStation webgui said "successfully connected"):

If I go into Site Survey on the Netgear it only lists two networks, none of which are mine. But the NanoStation shouldn’t be offering a network to connect to, or should it? Do both devices offer a network to connect to in WDS mode, or does one just connect to the other?

Well I hope it is. I'm just having problems figuring out what the settings problem is. It's strange to me that dmesg doesn't mention anything. I mean, it's like it's not even trying to connect or anything.

Is there a way to get a refund for the DD-WRT license I've purchased? I've decided this isn't going to work so I don't really have anything to use the DD-WRT license for. I will be trying to sell the NanoStation somewhere (with stock firmware).

are you using wep encryption? if so try wap or better if you can, i have tested with twap and wap2 and it work like a charm but with wep encryption not even the client mode works, and yes im sure im using the correct wep encryption, wep open, key one....
