Updated info: no new problems since I configured the second router as "repeater bridge" 3 days ago. So, it seems there's a problem with WDS.

There's a very clear and easy-to-do tutorial in the wiki, that explains how to setup a dd-wrt router into repeater mode. Do it, I did it and it works great.
