It could very well be that the ext2, ext3, ext4 drivers are not built-in your firmware. I hate to suggest it since you seem to like the Linux formats, but you might want to try FAT32 formatting and ...

I am using BS K3.X build v3.0-r33215M mega (08/25/17) on E4200 (v1).
Usb drive is not being mounted.

I was using an ext4 usb drive for years with Tomato, and I am nowadays moving to DD-WRT. ...
