Unfortunately, your workaround is not a 'one size fits all fix'. It didn't work on my E4200 v1, gave me the following error when trying to use any command from the kmod package:

I, also noticed that lsmod doesn't work properly on my Netgear R8500's running BS r36410 firmware and other routers as well.

The R9000 WAN port is enabled and ethernet connected to another router and has internet access.

that is what i mean, ignore the wds tabs. only use the settings on Wireless_Basic.asp page. one unit instead of "ap" pick "wds ap", on the other, pick "wds station", ...
