I've found the GUI to be mostly useless for 802.1q (vlan tagging/trunk port assignment). You need to set vlan data via cmd line. I roughly followed this to get vlans working properly on my R7000s: htt ...

I currently have an R7000 (used as an AP only) that utilizes 802.1x (specifically EAP-TLS) for authentication and has been working like a charm for about a year. Some recent changes to my hom ...

Steve, I see from your signature that you have a pretty decent Internet connection.

I have 400 Mbps and a 300 Mbps fiber connections myself, but cannot find a dd-wrt router that can handle even 400 ...

Some food for though on builds: I'm running Fractal 22208 Mega on my E3000 and so far it has been extremely stable.

Did you do the usual sanity check 30/30/30? What firmware are you running?
I just updated one of my more temperamental E4200s yesterday and had some issues with it stuck in a boot loop.

Might also want to check the CPU if you are getting the E4200v1. Mine (bought in mid-Dec) came with the Broadcom BCM4716 instead of BCM4718.

I have an E4200v1 that I received via an RMA and it too ...

I've been using 16785 on my E3000 that's bridged to an E4200, it works great and is extremely stable. I used it as my primary router that had PPTP, and OpenVPN servers running on it until I got my E4 ...

I did that to a WRT610N v1, it was an extremely easy install and drilling holes into the case was pretty painless. The cool part is that if you drill low enough, the bottom of the antennas will prop ...

Cannot open ports on Cisco E4200

This is definitely not true. I port forward a little over a half-dozen ports, plus utilize upnp for other misc forwarding with absolutely no problems.
