If you can get the first 2 steps you'll be fine, no need for the 3rd step then. The buff to dd-wrt file has a fully functional dd-wrt in it, you'll only have to use the whr-hp-g300n-firmware-MULTI.bin ...

Atheros hardware doesn't support vlan port switching with dd-wrt. AFAIK - atheros with dd-wrt only supports vlan tagging, it should have noted that in the wiki page introduction.

Couple things i would suggest:

1) You might try using a lower channel in the 5Ghz band.

2) You may try using a more recent build.

You'll need to use client mode, then create a virtual access point once the client mode bridge is established.

Or you can use WDS, which is a little more complex, but not to bad.

Not all builds behave the same for each unit, also consider community dd-wrt in a perpetual beta state, so be prepared for bugs that may follow suite with flashing a community build.
