There is only one minor assumption that you are making which is not correct. This 6100 (G90-610015-020) does not use PPOE, it uses DHCP to get its IP from VZ.

Pull the power off the Westell, wait about a min, plug the power back in and let it boot.

It should pickup the Host name from your DD-WRT router.

I have a similar issue where I have the Westell G90-610015-20 DSL modem.

I disabled it's DHCP on the Private LAN interface
I disabled the Public LAN interface

I installed (07/17/10) big - build 14818M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko on my RT-N16.

No more double mounting of /opt and all seems well in my patch.
