Could you possibly try to ping one or all of your idevices using their bonjour name? I would be curious it works for you. It should but there might be something else going on.

The only other thing I could think of is I believe the iphone 4 does not support the 5ghz band but I don't think it's applicable in this situation. Only the new iphone 5 supports dual band.

I have been using wpa2+tkip+aes and have not had any issues that I have noticed with my iphone 5 and 4s.
