Well I was thinking of getting that HP buffalo router. it seems now having a backup would be a good idea anyway.

Install that and if I am somehow able to fix the router I will have a spare :-)

I did find this section under administration but none of the settings make sense and are not explained. I just want it to do what the basic setup help mentions. ping the net every few minutes.

nono I mean the combination of all of this. IE auto finding and connecting to wifi locations automatically finding the open ones etc..

Searched the forums - found the wiki all have next to nothing on this. I apologize if I missed it.

Keep Alive. To me this means simple "ping" the internet to keep a dynamic connection alive ...
