At first you should have read to through the announcements of this forum.
Do not use the 13064 build.
The 14929 build is still recommended, I suggest the mini generic build.

You say the the dd-wrt router is set to AP, that seems to be ok.
Setting it to the same SSID as the main router should be ok, but select a different channel than the main router.

The maximum wireless speed for the WRT54GL is about 25 Mbps (half of the 54 Mbps for 802.11g).

Client-mode should somewhat support DHCP, look here:

There is a special note regarding DHCP.
And Client-mode gives you a dedicated local network subnet.
