I just picked up an R8500 and installed DD-WRT v3.0-r29200M kongac (03/05/16).

The wifi link rates are listed at the following after install:

wl0 - 5ghz - 43 Mbps
wl1 - 2.4ghz - 144 Mbps
wl2 - 5ghz - 346.5 Mbps

By enabling all of the following I get a healthy bump on 5ghz, but no change on 2.4ghz:

- Optimize Multicast Traffic
- TurboQAM (QAM256) support (only available on 2.4)
- NitroQAM (QAM1024) support
- Explicit Beamforming
- Implicit Beamforming
- Airtime Fairness

wl0 - 5ghz - 481 Mbps
wl1 - 2.4ghz - 144 Mbps
wl2 - 5ghz - 481 Mbps

All wireless modes are set to AP, Mixed, Auto channel, and 20 mhz width.

[Edit] - just checked again and the rate seems to be dropping on wl0 - 65-72.

Am I missing anything?

These are the expected rates for your settings.
If it drops to 72 then you are connecting with a single stream device.

Thank you. Are there settings that will offer more?

My setup is nothing special. Just a typical large home setup with a mix of computers, tvs, phones, etc. No Nas, no servers, nothing advanced.

R8500 (main router)
- Hardwired (PC, xbox, etc)
- cable modem
- Wireless (phones, tablets, tv, appletv, 2 extenders)

WR2500RP (den)
- 2.4ghz connection to main
- 5ghz open to wireless devices if needed (Channel 153(P)+149(S))
- Hardwired (dtv box)
- Wireless (phone, maybe)

WR2500RP (bed)
- 2.4ghz connection to main
- 5ghz open to wireless devices if needed (Channel 161(P)+157(S))
- Hardwired (dtv box, tv, appletv)

---

I've seen up to 1000 mbps on 5ghz. Here's where it sits at the moment:

wl0 5ghz
Network N-Only (5 GHz)
Channel 149 + 151
TX Power Auto
Rate 300 Mbps
WPA2 Personal

wl1 2.4ghz
Network N-Only
Channel1 1 + 9
TX Power Auto
Rate 130 Mbps
WPA2 Personal

wl2 5ghz
Network N-Only (5 GHz)
Channel 60 + 62
TX Power Auto
Rate 1000 Mbps
WPA2 Personal
