Why is the ability to choose which IPs get routed through the VPN and which get routed through the WAN so ridiculous?

The examples are worthless to new people, but the functionality is becoming increasingly required for average users who simply plug in the VPN provider's OpenVPN script into the startup window. (and it is easy to see this with all of the unanswered form posts all over the internet requesting help for the same feature)

It should be as easy as having a table that always route's the indicated IPs you can enter through the local ISP instead of the VPN provider.
