Hi guys. I bought this router a few months ago and haven't had time to install it. Tonight i had a little time so the first thing i go to do is install dd-wrt on router. I've seen couple of post (not on this forum) stating my router is locked and you can't update to dd-wrt (FCC rulings i guess). What i seen is the old versions prior to V3 were. But when i go out to dd-wrt server i did find a firmware that "seems" to match:

Course the only thing thats different is "tl-wr940nd" instead of "tl-wr940n". I'm assuming they are the same thing. I, of course, don't want to brick the router. Can anyone give me the low down. Is this thing updatable or not?

The "d" means that the antennas are detachable.

You need to flash with factory-to-ddwrt.bin first when you are moving from stock firmware, then tl-wr940ndv3-webflash.bin.

Make sure wireless is turned off, and the only thing connected to the router is your computer via ethernet.

1. Do a 30-30-30 reset.

2. Flash using factory-to-ddwrt-US.bin

3. Do another 30-30-30 reset.

4. Flash using tl-wr940ndv3-webflash.bin

There is also a thread (sticky at the top of this forum) with "revert" firmware if you wish to go back to stock.

I try it and doesn't work... no dhcp, no lan, no wan so no Internet. The Wi-Fi work ...

I recently flashed a TP-Link TL-WR940N with 05-10-2016-r2962/tplink_tl-wr940ndv31 and tried 06-20-2016-r29974/tplink_tl-wr940ndv3 and both firmwares seem to leave the router with no usage of the LAN ports. I only seem to be able to access the router through the Wifi to get to 192.168.1.1
I can not ping 192.168.1.1 via the LAN and the LAN's IP seems to be auto assigned without a gateway at:

Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.121.10
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

I have tried hardcoding my LAN IP to 192.168.1.10 and then access 192.168.1.1 via Firefox, no dice.
What is interesting is the LAN diagnostic light on the router does not even light up, but I definitely get a connection detection on the Windows laptop. Unsure what is wrong, I have DD-WRT'ed other routers so I am quite familiar with them and this should be working. There is firmware for the TL-WR940N so why does this not work.

I am also having problems with WAN & LAN port after updating firmware from stock to DD-WRT on my TL-WR940N V3. I can still access my router via WiFi, but no internet access.

I tried these firmwares with no luck getting it to work.

I have a question though, if it's a known problem, why is the TL-WR940N ver3 listed under the list of Supported Devices?

My WR940N V3 is an international version one.

I flashed mine with the official DD-WRT repositories, but none has been working out for me so far.

No LAN, no WAN. WiFi is working tho, FYI.

Dear All,

i'm at work in Indonesia, sunday when i'm walking on the markets i have found a cheap WR940Nv3 Int. Version.

I decided that buy it and try it with the last beta relase
(Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r31277 std (02/07/17)
based on Firmware DD-WRT TP-Link TL-WR941ND v6.

After the upgrade to DD-WRT i have make connection by wifi, and then i have make all the basic config.
(Wlan name, security, gateway address etc)

The Wan port not work.

When connect some LAN port to the master router (WR841ND v11 client config) running Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r29739 std (05/19/16)

The WR940Nv3 get address by DHCP and the internet is trasmitted through the gateway of the WR940Nv3.

From that moment all the device connected by wifi are on internet access.

If i plug to other LAN port of WR940Nv3 other devices like Notebook, the devices will get address from the DHCP of the WR841NDv11.
(So the DHCP of the WR940Nv3 not working but the data passage through the LAN ports of the WR940Nv3 working).

I will keep you up to date about new test and new settings of the parameters.

I think this device will be supported well soon.
