Hello folks,

I have narrowed it down to a TP-link Archer C7 V2/3 or a Linksys EA6500 (not sure if V1 or 2, but both supported).

One is an Atheros/Qualcomm and the second a Broadcom.

I know the Broadcom are the best supported chipsets, but the Archer is also supported now.

They are similar in price and specs, so I am not sure which direction to go.

I am inclined towards the Linksys EA6500 due to more RAM (V2 only) and far more flash, not to mention the Boradcom chipset.

Thank you very much for putting me on the right track.

Thanks, but that is more than double the cost.

I actually got the Linksys V2 with 256 of ram.

I think it's going back, the EA6500, it gets generally poor reviews, especially concerning reliability.
And I refuse to create a stupid cloud account simply to set it up!
It also has the 32k nmvam bug and it's harder to flash.

Back to the drawing board, maybe back to the Archer.

Thanks for any feedback.

Only the ea6500v2 has then nvram issue.
The v1 worked great for me.

Thanks Malachi

I have seen your name in many posts so I appreciate your advice.
V1 is too old to be available retail, at least in my area, not to mention that they seem to be clearing out this model in favor of the newer ones.

Anyway, it went back and I got the C7 instead.
I like the antennas, the radio off switch and the simple and direct browser setup.
And it seems to be easier to flash to dd-wrt.

This one might be a keeper, unless someone has other suggestions.

Just for the sake of closure, I have been happy with the Archer C7 V2.

I wish that the dd-wrt build for it had the same features as my old Linksys, but beggars can't be choosers.
One thing I miss is being able to turn the radio off at night and tweaking the Tx power, but maybe the hardware doesn't allow that.

dd-wrt is amazing!!!

Are you using v1? I have v2 and that capability is there with the latest (30949) builds. Try checking off the Advanced Settings checkbox in the Wireless -> Basic Settings and seeing if it is there (2nd item down for me).
