Hello - I would like to know if I can install DD-WRT software on router NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S - AC2600 4x4 MU-MIMO Smart WiFi Gigabit Gaming Router (R7800-100NAS)? Thank you
thanks tatsuya46. Do you know where I can get it and how to install? Are there any links and instructions? Kindly let me know since I am new to this router/DD-WRT process.
factory file is for going from netgear firmware --> ddwrt. the other one is for ddwrt <--> ddwrt after for upgrading or downgrading. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

tatsuya46, much appreciated. Do you have any instructions for newbie like me? Do i can copy the factory-ddwrt file onto USB and plug into my router and reboot? Are there any step-by-step instructions or any links which i can follow? Thanks
Log into the router, upload the factory to dd-wrt file like you would normally upgrade the firmware.
After it's done, let it boot up, log in and select restore to factory defaults. Once it's done booting up, configure it. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, hope that's OK. I'm in exactly the same situation: I have one of these Netgear R7800's but am feeling rather clueless about what to do with it (and, based on the peacock thread, convinced that I'm going to destroy it).
Anyway... I followed the thread. As I'm doing the initial installation of DD-WRT, as instructed in step 5 I followed the wiki. The wiki talks through identifying your firmware and directs me to the "Hardware-Specific" page (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware-specific) from where I select Netgear. I then can't see R7800. Is R7000 OK? That looks the closest option but the pages under that category seem to be talking about something somewhat older than what I have. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DD-WRT_on_R7000 talks about chk files, but the thread above talks about factory files. After some poking about based on the rest of the peacock thread, I'm thinking that maybe what I want is in fact ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/05-18-2016-r29721/netgear-r7800/, as I've seen a table which says this is the minimum build for this router... but this table is, I think, the router database which the peacock thread says several times to ignore.
Not sure how to go forward and based on the many, many dire warnings I'm very, very wary! Suspect it's simpler than I'm perceiving it to be, but as I say, this is very new to me.
