I searched on google and on the forums looking to see if the r7300 was the same thing as the r7000. I was curious to know if the firmware on here for r7000 will work for the r7300.
Since I received a bit of debug info from a R7300 user.
I can confirm that, the R7000 build won't work on the R7300, burning the R7000 boardid to the R7300 can permanently damage your unit. Unlike the R6700 which is identical to the R7000, this unit has a few differences that require proper detection+ customization.
This is because the R7300DST is not a pure router. It has a PLC (aka powerline) inside.
The best is to have this PLC feature as a different devices (pair or more). Netgear manufactures good ones, namely XAV / XWN series.
Devolo is a good brand too. AFAIK today all chips inside are from the same brand (Atheros IIRC), so the difference from one brand to the other is only in secondary (although highly stressed) components like capacitors, VDRs etc...
Anyway, always prefer devices with female filtering socket on the visible side, on which you'll plug ***all*** your interferences spitting devices (all PWM supplied devices, which sadly means near all, nowadays) nearby that constantly spoil your nice mains sinus wave (even in sleep mode), tough lowering the throughput between PCL devices.
Good times of WRT54GL analog main power transformer, good old iron/copper, lives longer than human beeings. Eventually change the single one or two capacitors every 20 years. Today, the PWM power supplies are the main source of failure/death of all our electronics. PLC are PWM supplied.
