Device bricked after firmware update (this version) and yes I have the correct wzr-300hp-dd-wrt-webupgrade-MULTI.bin. Previous version Buffalo dd-wrt.

Normally that would be correct file, but not true for a long time.
This has been broken forever so its not news, you have to TFTP the buffalo_to_ddwrt_webflash-MULTI.bin file in order to unbrick the device.
Also upgrading must also be done the same way until the issue is fixed, which is likely not in the foreseeable future.
