THE PROBLEM
Can't access web GUI anymore and no internet connection is made. The router simply doesn't do anything other than connect devices with an IP. That's it. No http or https access of any kind.
THE REAL PROBLEM
I disabled the reset button (SSH, telnet, etc, as well). So, no hard reset for me. Or 'backdoor'. Only option left is recovery mode.
So, I booted to recovery mode (http://192.168.0.1 with fixed IP of 192.168.0.2 and 255.255.255.0 subnet) via LAN cable to port 1. Proceeded with uploading and flashing the original firmware from D-Link via the recovery page. Everything went slowly - the regular way, as it should, and reached 100% upload, whereafter the recovery upgrade page happily reports "success".
THE STRANGE, UNKOWN AND UGLY PROBLEM
The router doesn't 'recover' and is still running a non-functional DD-WRT. Damn. Yes, it is as if I didn't upload and flash the original firmware from D-Link. Now, that is strange, indeed.

I can still get access to recovery mode, but now I cannot upload anything. I can choose a file, but it never uploads it. Conenction timeout. Neither original firmware, nor DD-WRT works for the uploader anymore.
Telnet still responds, when the router starts in normal mode. But as I have blocked Telnet, there's no luck, even when I enter the right username and password (web admin user/pass).
So it may still work, I guess. If only I could get some sort of access or flash it somehow.
Any ideas of how to get inside this walled-off router?

Wished I read this post beforehand. I purchased a unit off eBay and proceeded to flash latest DDWRT via web gui,it appeared to complete, but it actually failed. I then tried recovery GUI, it also failed. I can get to recovery firmware page, but any firmware for this unit(factory/ddwrt/openwrt) will upload and immediately say "upgrade failed". Booted from startup, it won't assign any IP address. Tried IE only, setting LAN duplex to 10MB half&full, tried another PC with Linux. Nothing worked. Ah well.
