Netgear wn1000rp connects to public network

I have just installed a Netgear WN1000RP wifi booster (ethernet over power plug in) which works great and allows access to the garage and shop however when checking the network, I noticed that it is public instead of private.

Is this the norm for this type of device?
Has anyone else used these and what are your views on them?
