I've read through the peacock thread and the wiki guide, I searched for my router on the database. It says it's supported though there aren't any defined versions to download on it's page. So I figured the best thing would be the ask here.

I'm not too worried about the process of flashing itself, the wiki guide seems to take care of most of that, what would be the ideal version/build to download?

I'm on a 20MBPS connection and things are usually pretty finicky, like for instance loading a small youtube video will often cause a spike in ping for any other devices on the network. My ISP charges a fee to come check the lines if they find no problems, and speedtests will oft show normal results, so I figured switching to DD-WRT might be helpful.

Here is the file for First flash: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/11-14-2016-r30880/tplink_tl-wr940ndv3/factory-to-ddwrt.bin

Some TP-Links have a locked down firmware (won't allow you to upgrade to dd-wrt), use TFTP.

Your best bet, try TFTP: http://bkil.blogspot.ca/2014/12/hidden-tftp-of-tp-link-routers.html

https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Tftp_flash

Use the Linksys TFTP Program if you need a TFTP client.

If you need a TFTP Server: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html

Then after the router is running dd-wrt use this file: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/11-14-2016-r30880/tplink_tl-wr940ndv3/tl-wr940ndv3-webflash.bin

You can upgrade to new releases by using this link: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/ then going down to the bottom folder, then search for the correct folder for your router. I would suggest you read the build threads (ex here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=305539) and the svn timeline (http://svn.dd-wrt.com/timeline).
