I have both of these routers and I'm wanting to send back one of them. Spec wise, then R7800 is definitely better, but I've heard quite a few people say the R7000 is a very good router. I'm mostly looking at this for an AP.

Thanks,

well i ve them both Smile
few words--- R7800 has a better CPU 2 x 1.7Ghz this means better WAN speed, better VPN speed, and more heat i guess, also has a great range and 4 streams/antennas, + 2 USB + 1 NAS/sata ports and more RAM ...

R7000 has a 2 x 1Ghz CPU and 3 antennas/streams + 2 USB ports... But because its a broadcom device you have VLANS,Link Aggregation, DNSCrypt and ddup(direct update) prior to R7800

Specs aside, I'm curious what people think about these two related to DD-WRT. I've heard a few folks say that the R7000 is better even with lower specs. However, the comments were made a few years ago

The R7800 have vlans that are not limited to 0-15 as Broadcom has.

well im not aware how to use swconfig yet have you tried it...., also on R7800 VLAN menu is missing from Kong's build but if you say so...i believe and i would like yo know how to, i tried on 1043v2 with swconfig but it was a mess, i tried on R7000 with vlan and dead ended again, now im using managed switch to isolate a nasty udp spamming smart device instead of vlans on my r7000....

anyway i vote for R7800 as it is future proof...and so far it has one of the most powerful CPU's ...
