|
Hi all!
Im trying to make things easier on the home network by adding local URL´s instead of typing in ip addresses and paths to the local services.
To be precise; i want to type "computername.plex" in the web-browser and end up on "http://192.168.1.32:32400/web/index.html"
I know i can add a hostname, "computername.local" and a specific IP address, but im not finding any info regarding adding a path..
So i would rather have a handfull of different hostnames for the same IP, that link to the different services on that target IP, than having to know the individual ports and paths.
I have a few local services running on a few machines at home (pc & raspberry) (mostly media servers, but also print server, web server and file server) and i have a few users that simply will not learn the IP addresses, ports and so on.
And im tired of hearing "i couldnt connect, its broken", when the URL used is "http://random-numbers"..
And yes, of course, bookmarks would be a very neat and simple solution, but unfortunately that would be application/computer-specific and wouldnt show up on other browsers/computers/handheld devices.. |

I feel so silly right now, i knew this from school, but i had forgotten all about it until i read your reply..
I did not think things thru before i posted the question..
But thank you kindly for your time and patience to explain it properly as i clearly needed a fresh-up..
Also, its very helpful to "solve" threads, in case somebody else would google it later..
Ps:
Does anybody know where i can download internet?
and; The coffe-cup holder is missing from my new computer... |
