I have a wrt54g v5 router which has been flashed with dd-wrt v24-sp2 micro.
I have an ongoing problem with having to reset the router several times a day.
This router was flashed some time ago; i am not sure exactly when. Maybe about 5 years ago.
It worked without any problem until about a year ago.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck

Have you already tried a GUI reset or 30-*-30? My first thought would be failing capacitors, as that has been my experience with similar issues on WRT's' and other older routers...or maybe its just a failing power supply, so try that first if you have one of the same voltage available (current >= 0.5A).

What is your build version? Hint: "dd-wrt v24-sp2 micro" is not it; I hope not 14896. :-/

Aside what jwh7 says about its ancient hardware ..... which is likely the problem

These type routers will also just stop/lockup at times when overloaded if its bandwidth is completely
saturated and/or if too many wireless devices are connected.... some builds work better than others
See it often these days since people have more wireless clients and higher rate ISP connections.
This type lockup is just fixed by doing a power cycle.
You could check this by limiting wireless clients that are connected to it for a day or so.
And if you happen to be running a VAP on it this will make it twice as bad ---

The build is 12548.
I have already tried a new power supply with no improvement.
Load is very low with only one to three computers connected to it at various times. However, the problem started when it was somewhat loaded with 5-7 devices every day.
I am not sure what a VAP is.
I have only done power resets but, will try the others and see what happens
Thanks,
Chuck

It may have a failed filter capacitor in the router which will cause erratic operation.

After reading a 10 yr old review though I would personally toss it in favor of a newer router.

I may also be a ham but, I am not that stingy.

Try 14929; reset after updating. What is the default Max Ports limit on micro builds? Try reducing your TCP/UDP Timeouts; 3/4 or 1/2.

Also, the v5 has the BCM5352 (runs cooler than 4000-series), so (esp if its getting overloaded...) you could try overclocking to 250 Mhz. If the caps are failing, that obviously won't help, but depends whether you have reasonable means to check/replace them. Or might be a good excuse to upgrade routers.

Micro builds on these routers defaults are
1024 / 300 / 120
Not a while lot of wiggle room,.....

I have found several files at http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2010/08-12-10-r14929/broadcom_K26/
which is the best option?
Also where can I find directions on updating my firmware?
Thanks,
Chuck

Don't try to put a k26 on that little beast.
This is what you need:
http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2010/08-12-10-r14929/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin

Best to reset it and just install this over your current dd-wrt build. Give it plenty time to fully load and boot before trying to mess with it ...
