I'm looking to turn the router into basically a range booster and from what I understand. DDWRT can make that happen. But everytime I've tried to do this, it fails. The network is an open wireless setup. I'm using the latest version of DDWRT V24 RC2 for the router. It's a linksys WRT54GS router.

Any suggestions, tutorials, steps needed would be outstanding.

Are you trying to use the dd-wrt router to boost the range of a different router or is the dd-wrt router your only router and you want it to give more range ?
If it is option #1, this tutorial may help...
