Router: TP-Link TL-WR841N v7
Installed firmware: Downloads › betas › 2015 › 05-09-2015-r26866 › tplink_tl-wr841ndv7 (was using the latest beta)
Symptoms:
1. immediately after installation, the WiFi can be connected briefly but dropped soon
2. I then go to the web interface to revert the settings to default, guessing the previous settings from a later firmware might have caused problems
3. after (2), I can connect to WiFi with SSID `dd-wrt` and connect to the internet.
4. I cannot connect to 192.168.1.1. In fact the router IP is the same as the one given from the ISP.
5. I disconnect the ethernet from the ISP (i.e. the router is now not connected at all) and connect to the router through WiFi only. I cannot found the router IP. Following https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Obtaining_Router_IP does not help.

Are you saying you have it working, somewhat, but can`t get an ip to take you back to the interface again? If this is the case holding down the reset for prolonged period while powered up should reset everything back to 1.1. I have had this issue before and even changing to a different computer has worked. Nevertheless, this version is usually easy to recover with TFTP. You are using a very old build and many had issues at the time (27506 was about the best). I would suggest something from here: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/ Many tutorials on TFTP server recovery here and good vids. too. Here is a link for a good TFTP server: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html

Yes, I cannot get an IP to connect to the router, both wired and wireless connection has no "router IP". I've searched instruction regarding TFTP, but that requires the IP to the router too.
Hard reset, 30/30/30, doesn't work too. It is still in this state.
Ok. Thanks for the YouTube link. I quickly scan through it and found that the most important hint there is to manually assign the IP. So I manually assign the router with IP 192.168.1.1 and it works. I then use the web interface to flash it to another version of dd-wrt.
