Firmware: v24-sp2 (06/06/14) kongac on Netgear Nighthawk

Hardening my router and recently decided to change the root username (a la: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Script_Examples#Change_root_username)

All of a sudden, can't connect client via openvpn. All I changed were login credentials to the router and ssh port (remote).

Question, if not already obvious, could changing root username to 'x' have any effect on OpenVPN config and connect?
