This sounds like the similar problem some are having unlocking factory firmware on the ver. 11 EU model. I couldn`t find the thread but I do have a copy of the bin that unlocks a ver.11 based on factory firmware #150616. Hopefully something is there for your ver.12. You may just have to rename the file.

I agree Smile
The topic suggested by you and that contains the fix of this issue is:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=304830

I don't think that it is important to rename
But ... I don't know if a firmware natively for v11 can be installed on v12 version
Probably could be better that @ramblin could post some question on that topic

Ciao
Paolo

So this does mean that It is not more necessary to install a patched firmware before to install a DD-WRT version ?

I've found a solution with the tftp it's really necessry to name the file (the beta for v12) as described in the v11 thread recovery and v11, with v12 it doesn't work

Which version did you flash? The latest beta r32597? Is everything working fine so far? I am considering flashing my newly bought router (v12 EU), but could not find any feedback yet.

Hi
I have bought a wr841n v12 [EU-Version], too. I have the same problem like all others: "Error code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name."

I can't flash the firmware "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" using tftp32 or by the web-interface of the router.

Please, can someone who sucessfully flashed a v12 [EU] write down exact which programs being used, which name of file if renamed and which files (exact download-link). No suggestions like: use google... in the other thread.... a clear and no-failure-producing manual.

I've no problem configuring my ip / flashing with tftp - have many other flashed well. it is just the problem with the right firmware(name) and maybe other program which is used.

btw: why did tp-link change things.... i've bought this router only because of the possibility to flash dd-wrt. Confused
thanks.

This router is very basic and very old with only 4MB flash size ram and slow CPU it does not support VPN has only basic features and it does not worth the hassle...
+ it could be locked down by TP LINK so try serial (kermit) way Wink but in general TFTP was ok to flash, i guess if you can flash to an old TP link version where firmware was not locked than you can upgrade to a version of DD- WRT......

thanks for your reply.

yes. it is a very low cost router. but not old. it has the fastest cpu, v1 .... v11 are slower.
yes ist has not much ram/rom, but doesn't matter for me. I just wanted a chep router/ap with dd-wrt. so i failed...

flashing with serial-cable. no thanks....

i've managed to flash openwrt(lede) "lede-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr841-v12-squashfs-factory-eu.bin" per webupgrade. yes, the original firmware accepted this file.
but don't be too happy. My router only boots and has ssh/telnet. no web interface with which i then might flash to dd-wrt.
even configuring lan with internet access was difficult for me.

now i stuck in getting the webinterface installed (read only filesystem errors) or if someone knows how to flash dd-wrt with telnet / ssh in openwrt(LEDE) - that would be fine.

thx

Dear all,
I have enjoyed the DD-WRT forums for years passively.
I now think I can contribute to this topic actively.

I have succesfully flashed DD-WRT on a TL-WR841N-v12-EU using the standard TP-LINK recovery mode and TFTPD software.
Note that the v12 looks for a version 11 filename recovery file: wr841nv11_tp_recovery.bin
Yes, this is not a typo!
See attached proven procedure in pdf format for succesfully flashing via the TFTPD software.

This is not an idiot proof procedure, you will need some basic understanding of what you are doing.

Hope this helps you guys out.
Greetz and respect!
