Hi there,
I'm looking to get VPN functionality on my Netgear R6250. I've successfully flashed a Linksys wrt320n with the dd-wrt firmware in the past. I've seen that there's only beta firmware available for this router by Kong. Can anybody confirm if the VPN functionality in this build for the Netgear is just standard? I.e can I set up a big standard IPsec PSK job, or does it have to use openvpn? I don't want to have to install a 3rd party app on my devices to connect to a VPN for remote home access as I will be using it on a corporate machine so would like to keep 3rd party apps to a minimum.
Also, how do I go about flashing this firmware? I see in the beta section for this router there are 2 files. Do I need to flash with "factory-to-dd-wrt.chk" first and then with "netgear-r6250-webflash.bin"? When I did the old Linksys I only needed to flash with a single file.
I have different routers, but I am using VPN server on all of them without problem. _________________ Please Fix The Following Bugs:

The former is only for initial flash to DD, the latter is for already running DD. The factory flash f/w has header info needed for the OEM f/w to allow flashing. But it wastes a (tiny) bit of flash storage. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

Never mind, I've aswered my own question. Is there a stock Netgear Genie image hosted anywhere that I could use to revert if I wanted to at a later date?

Just flash the netgear firmware. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
One last question - I wondered what the VPN capability of the build is? Does it use OpenVPN or just a built in VPN setup? I don't want to have to use a 3rd party VPN client to connect with so I wont go ahead with the flash if that's the case.
So to clarify, I want to be able to set the VPN server up on the router and connect to it from a vanilla client. For exmaple the built-in IPsec client on a mac, or the VPN workplace stuff on a Windows machine. I don't want to have to install the OpenVPN app on the client machine to connect to it.

Does that make sense?
Then OpenVPN is not what you want as OpenVPN does not speak IPsec. For this you have to use Softether, which is also included in the build, there are a few guides for it floating around. The build has everything you need, but there is no one click setup. _________________ KONG PB's: http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/
