Current Setup
Router(DHCP/DNS Server) - Ubiquiti Edge Router Lite 192.168.1.1 Ubquiti Firmware
Switch - TPLink Manged Switch 192.168.1.2
Wireless AP(1) (Firewall Off/DHCP Off) - TP Link C2600 192.168.1.3 TPLINK Firmware
Wireless AP(2) (Firewall Off/DHCP Off) - DLink D862L 192.168.1.4 - DDWRT V31899
Wireless AP(3) (Firewall Off/DHCP Off) - TPLink Archer C7 192.168.1.6 (currently not online) DDWRT V31899

Townhouse about 1400sqft, renting so cant make holes, and dont want cable all over the place. AP's are WDS except for .3 which is directly connected to the switch.

From wired computer can ping everything except the WDS wireless AP's.
But overall "it works", when I added (3) I think they might have been to close to each other, and at the same time to far from the main AP which is causing issues, trying to figure that out.

-Question 1: What are some reasons I cant ping from wired to the WDS AP's. From the Router&C2600 I can ping .4/.6.

-Question 2: Best way to figure out best distance between AP's for best results.

-Question 3: Does 3 APs work well with WDS?

If you need more information on setup, let me know also. I setup the AP's according to the DDWRT instruction for Atheros Chipset for WDS.
If need to move to Atheros section just let me know. - Thanks.

I put back online the Archer C7. I had some issues but it looks like its working. Main issue why cant the two ddwrt's see each other?

They are all getting IP's from the main router, but i cant ping between 192.168.1.4 to .6 or vise versa. I cant open up the management sites of either.

Show arp shows that they are listed. I read somewhere a while back about a Vlan type issue, is that still a thing with ddwrt?

For WDS all routers should have the same chipset and are on DDWRT (preferably with the same build): https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WDS_Linked_router_network

Otherwise use Repeater /client bridge: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Routers

They are on the same build and both are the same chipset.

WDS is a mesh network, so inherently can have multiple routers (these are not 'Access Points'...more like a specialized Repeater).

Touche; "Qualcomm Atheros QCA9558". Smile The WDS wiki troubleshooting also states:
'Don’t see the other router' wrote:
Check if STP is enabled on both routers.[/url]
Have you tried that?

Sorry about my last post early morning or late night not sure which.

Ok yes the both have STP enabled. Weird things here.

My phone on my 2.4 can open up the management of the .4 DDWRT anywhere, only the .6 if i drop wifi and next to that wifi spot.

I have a Plex on the .6 which I can play "for the most part" from a Roku which is connected at the .4, and from my main PC, but that main PC cant access the management of either .4/.6, nor ping (which could be a ICMP) error somewhere along the way.

I would have though that .4 - .6 should be able to see each other, thought it might have been a VLAN issue but every thing i was reading about WDS did not say about extra steps involved with VLAN.

For both the DDWRT's: 2.4Ghz set as WDS Station, with A VAP (same SSID) on all the 2.4s.

5Ghz is a sep on each router so I have it called 5G, 5G1, 5G2 (I know original), dont think they can all have the same SSID.

Thanks for any support.
