Not all channels are available in all Regulatory Domains.

If you set the Extension Channel to "lower" does something change? I might suggest also posting this to the big monster thread.
Selecting channel 149 only provides "upper" as the extension choice. Selecting 157 provides no choice, extension is blank/empty. Selecting 165 provides "lower". Likewise, channels 136, 140, 144 are all empty extensions.

BTW - selecting and applying a channel with an empty extension causes instability - 5GHz doesn't show, router slows and other issues.

That kind of confirms what I'm thinking. It seems DD-WRT is reserving an entire 80Mhz block so only 149/upper and 165/lower are useable.

This is also true, although I'm not sure that's the exact issue here.

Hello everyone!

I was having some great speed and range using the original 167514 firmware from Linksys but decided on trying DD-WRT on my V.1. I love the interface and everything I can do, but I'm not really getting a good and stable connection on my 5Ghz band. 2.4 is disconnected. Nothing I have uses it. Would someone please be able to give me some pointers as to which settings to change? Also, I'm using the official release for the router "DD-WRT v3.0-r28628 std (12/29/15)". Any help or pointers would really be appreciated.

So does anyone have an update on this?

I have a WRT1200AC, but I think it's basically the same hardware as the WRT1900. I have been using my router for quite some time, with very poor transfer speeds. I just thought it was because I had setup openVPN on the router and that was causing the issue. But I didn't understand why it would affect the local traffic.

Anyway, I came across this post while I was searching how to get better speeds. I noticed the issue when I was checking out the Mac's tool "network utility". It will display the link speed when connected to wireless networks. I noticed on my ISP provided router, I was getting 450Mbps and 217Mbps on the 5ghz and 2.4ghz.

On my WRT1200AC running DD_WRT, I was only get 144Mbps on both the 5ghz and 2.4ghz network.

I noticed my 5Ghz network channel width had been set to Full 20Mhz. So I tried changing it to Dynamic 20/40Mhz and then checked the network utility again and I was now getting 300Mbps. WOW!

My transfer speeds are such an improvement now. However, now that I have had a taste, I'm wondering if I can get the link speed to get up to where it should (i.e. 450Mbps).

Anyone know what settings I should set to get this working at this level?

Thanks!

Set the 5GHz channel to 80. You should then see the link speed connection of 450, or whatever your NIC supports. In my case I see 867.

Hi MyersW,

I have tried that, but the result is not good. If I set to channel width of 80, the link speed drops to 144. If I put it back to Wide HT40, channel 48, extension: lower. It will go back to having a link speed of 300. I can't seem to get any better than 300.

Any ideas why? Is this an issue with the dd-wrt firmware for my router?

Anyone else have a WRT1200AC and able to achieve 450 link speed?

I know this is an old post but I have the same problem.

My down is 150 mbps and either 2.5 and 5ghz on WRT1900ACS v2 are capped at 20mbps.

QOS on or off don't have any effect.

Other things I tried:
Higher beacon number
Changing channels
VHT80
VHT40
..
in fact I think I pretty much clicked on any possible radio button

Anyone can shed some light.

Thanks
