Hi all,

in an attempt to buy a supported RT-N12 B1 I accidentally bought a RT-N12 VP B1 and spent a day trying to flash dd-wrt. No success. No way to return..

Asus restoration utility just uploads the trx and then immediately shows a "success.." message and nothing more happens. I observed the restoration process with an original asus upgrade file for this router and the upload is followed by another "restoration in process.." message.

I would like to know if there is any way at this time to put dd-wrt on it. If not, how can I contribute?
I tried to figure out the chipset, because most of the N12s are broadcom, but this model tends to be rather a Realtek:

Till now I didn't find any discussions about exactly this model so for the sake of this I am asking this question here.
There are a few sites mentioning the N12 VP, but not the B1 revision and it seems to be a big difference between them.
here is the former N12_VP:

Some tried to put tomato on it with success:

On my router the upgrade process does not finish like with all the previous dd-wrt trx files.

I tried blindly other models from ddwrt router database and only the trx file for N13U behave differently in the Asus restoration with kind of running through the complete processs. But again with no boot. That N13U is a ralink3052 based router..

How can I find out my chipset?
Thank you!

The RT-N12VP B1 is not a Broadcom unit. It is a MediaTek.

I triyed to flash same router recently, it has mediatek MT7628 you can find out the cpu model by typing in command line: cat /proc/cpuinfo

you can always roll back to original firmware using Firmware Restoration tool from ASUS

I am afraid the only option we have at the moment is to flash chineese fork of tomato firmware but it wont load on your router via firmware upgrade
