Hi all, I have Linksys E3000 router with DD WRT Big Build running in bridged mode. It has always worked perfectly until the power company turned off power (scheduled outage) to replace a power pole. I forgot to unplug the E3000. When power came back on, I had an issue with the USB port which I have resolved. While trying to solve the USB problem, I tried to enter the router settings (gateway) page and am not able to enter. The IP address is still the same but a no go trying to enter settings page. I suppose I could reset and restore from backup but I would rather not. I am hoping one of our forum gurus might have a solution. Thanks!
P.S. I apologize if this is not the correct forum for my post.

Given this happened related to the power outage, I'd suspect your power supply or voltage regulator cap(s).
Certainly, first try resetting; learn to love it. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

Hi jwh7, thanks for reply. If I remember correctly, a reset will go back to the initial DD WRT firmware. If so, and I still cannot access the web GUI, then the router is pretty much useless right? The best would be if I could set back to factory and start over but it seems the only way would be access to web GUI.

Yes a reset will clear the current installs' settings, then (normally) prompt to set a new password. Re-reading...the GUI access was due to the USB thing, not directly the power outage? So...what exactly was the USB issue, what did you do to fix it, and what did you do to break the GUI?
Can you access the router via telnet? From there you could wget and flash firmware. Or if SSH is enabled, you could use WinSCP to copy the firmware over and flash. Or use TFTP, or a serial connection. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

The USB thing has always been strange. I just had not messed with it for so long that I forgot there was an issue. When powering on/off, if a USB device is connected, it either will not be recognized or, if it is, the only way to access is \\ip address\folder name(s). I found if I boot router and wait a few minutes before plugging in USB, all is ok. It shows under network in Windows and I can access with router name.
As far as I know, the GUI access had nothing to do with the USB thing. It seems the power outage was cause although I am not completely sure as I have not tried to access GUI for quite awhile. I will have to try SSH-not sure if it is enabled. Unfortunately, I do not know how to use Telnet. I am all ears (or all eyes in this case) if you are willing to help!

Sounds like the issue I had on my WNDR4000, of course that thread disappeared. Use a startup script of something like...

Oh. So, I'd suspect there is a bigger issue than worrying about the effect of a reset. Even if you want to change to OEM f/w, you'll need to reset first anyway, and again after flashing. So I'd try a reset with DD first (while running, hold reset until the lights go out or flash). Technically, I'd first check the power supply with a multimeter. Then I'd open the case and check the caps, but ESR meters are not common. Have you read the E3000 wiki to verify hardware reset is ok for this model? _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

OK, I got telnet working and am asked for user name and password. I know the password like the back of my hand (I think!) but am not able to access. Guess I will sleep on it for now. Thanks for help-I learned sumpin' new today!
Now I feel kinda silly, when using Telnet, I enter login name for router and then it asks for password but when I am entering, I do not see any characters being typed. Hmm...
