Hello,
New to forum and also new to VPN and configuring router to have the VPN option on.
I have a Dlink dir-868l router.
Just purchased a VPN service (nordVPN).
From what i understand i need to "flash" my router in order to get the VPN option functioning.
I did follow the steps on the DDWRT web site, got the factory-to-ddwrt.bin file i need for my router but when i go to upload the file my firmware says "firmware upgrade failed!".
Sorry for being such a nuuuuuub but i really don't know where to go from there...
I did get the dir868b-webflash.bin file for step 2 but cant get there.
Make sure to pick the correct revision for the 868L, there are 3.
Next, reset the router to default, while it is still running d-link firmware.
Then upload the firmware via the upgrade page you took a screenshot of.
Wait at least 5 min, the router is upgrading, don't touch it, unplug it, etc. Nothing for 5 min.
Then log into the router at 192.168.1.1, it should ask you to change the username and password. And you should be running dd-wrt. Then upgrade to the other file in the folder for more features.
Note: I did try build 33180 on some of my Broadcom based routers and they either bricked or did not take the upgrade. _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.

Steps from where? What build did you use? And what revision is your hardware? The Supported Devices wiki shows A1, B1, and C1.
Is the 868L running the latest factory firmware? It's possible it no longer directly allows third party flashing; nor even OEM downgrading. Just speculation... did you look at the device thread (which is current)? _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

In addition to the wiki which cautions which versions to use, check out the thread below. Read it in its entirety. I read the 880 thread and it was very helpful before I upgraded my router to DD-WRT firmware.
