It's getting close to a year since Apple removed PPTP support from their devices, leaving an L2TP as the next simplest option for users to create a VPN server connection from their home/work networks (while still having a normal PPoE ISP connection and maybe running an OpenVPN server, for example) i.e. I am looking to not dusrupt my normal WAN connection, still want to use my OpenVPN client connection, and want to run an L2TP VPN server, so I can connect to my home NAS from iPhone, while on the go.
I know there are other options (like running an OpenVPN server), but I am specifically asking about L2TP server naively on DD-WRT.
Anyone know why this might know (technically) why this might be tough to add as a native VPN server function?
SoftEther can do L2TP which are present in some builds.
Thanks for your response. Aware of softether option, but am not looking for a solution/work-aroud.
Am looking for a technical answer to why a native L2TP server function (just like the native PPTP and OpenVPN server already in most builds) is not possible (without the use of /opt plugins/workaround).
There must be something about the protocols that prevent it being a simple enable/disable switch built-in, otherwise someone would have likely implemented it by now.
