Step by Step to safely install dd-wrt firmware without brick

Hi everyone!
Can anybody give the step by step instructions to safely and successfully install dd-wrt firmware with the worry of my r8000 router bricking itself. I will also need to know if and how I store the current Netgear firmware to my desktop. Any help with doing this will be infinitely appreciated by myself.

I'm afraid that if you are asking this "how I store the current Netgear firmware to my desktop", ddwrt will be too complex for you

As long as you have capability of patience, read and learn you won't have any trouble.

If you want the exact same one check the firmware version and then go to netgear website and download it.
