I'm looking to improve my IPTV streaming quality. While streaming live sports broadcasts, often the stream stutters and drops frames. I recently flashed the kong r33010 firmware build onto the R7800 router, which I plan to use mainly for streaming live IPTV through Kodi on my Amazon Fire TV box. Are there specific values that need to be edited, fields enabled in order to help improve the live tv streaming quality?

streaming live via Wi-Fi or LAN (wired) if Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz ??
On my R7800 I use some standard settings as well i dont use 5Ghz only 2.4Ghz as its very stable for me...

So on 2.4Ghz.. i use short GI, Short Preamble, NG mixed channel 11 + lower, country domain Canada or Haiti for best results, AES WiFi encryption is a must, i turned off all features like beamforming and so...,i do not use Protection Mode or RTS Threshold I use only Noise Immunity...
May be read this, if this tweak will help you at all...
https://routerguide.net/dtim-interval-period-best-setting/
Personally i do not use QoS as i don't need it, even sometimes with 40+ devices, i've never had any complains about connection balance, by default DD-WRT runs very balanced even without QoS, but this strictly depends from clients as well...

Thanks for the info. I was planning on streaming live via 5Ghz, as I was thought it would improve stability but would a LAN connection be optimal?

Do you notice any frame drop or stuttering when you're streaming live tv sports such as basketball, baseball football or soccer. Or would that problem be due to the server or device?

server, bad cables, wobbly socket, buggy modems, bad settings, buggy firmware, VPN's ..and so on many factors....try to eliminate them one by one....

I do stream Netflix, Vimeo, Youtube, never had any issues
on R7800 i have 200/60 Mbit connection recently upgraded, no issues so far, as well i have 100/20 at home on R7000, and 100/20 on my TP-Link devices...the good thing is i do not use VPN so if you have any troubles streaming via VPN this could be an issue too...with VPN try to use lighter encryption if possible...high encryption is very CPU demanding....

p.s. may be add those lines to your start up script and reboot...

for CPUFREQ in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor; do [ -f $CPUFREQ ] || continue; echo -n performance > $CPUFREQ; done

this will force router CPU to run at constant max speed and this solves some issues as R7800 has speed step kind of tech to save some power but actually the router works better at max speed the toll is 2-3 C more heat witch is noting for this unit...

Thanks for the response and suggestions.

VPN protocol is OpenVPN (UDP) which is speed friendly. In addition, I've already installed those lines in the Commands of "Start Up" on the R7800 kong build.

No VPN is installed with the build, i.e., in the router, yet. However, VPN is installed through Kodi on the device. Does it matter how / where the VPN is installed? In other words, is the kong build unnecessary if the VPN is not installed with it?

R7800 is connected to Comcast modem via ethernet and is also connected to Fire TV device via ethernet. Comcast ISP service plan speed is 220 dn / 20 up.

Results of speed tests through an app which is installed in Kodi, on the Fire Tv device, with IPVanish also connected through Kodi on the Fire TV device:

IPVanish connected: 10.25 dn / 12.51 up.
IPVanish disconnected: 40.37 dn / 12.63 up.

Would installing IPvanish in the R7800 kong build show similar speed results compared to the current IPVanish installation through Kodi?

Here are some other speed test results:
WiFi 5Hz with IPVanish connected: 91.08 dn / 12.31 up.
WiFI 5Hz w/ IPVanish disconnected: 94.92 dn / 12.40 up

WiFi 2.4Hz w/ IPVanish connected: 86.31 dn / 11.96 up
WiFi 2.4Hz w/IPVanish disconnected: 92.61 dn / 12.84 up

I was always under the impression that a wired (ethernet) connection is the better connection - meaning more stable and faster, but the speed tests show otherwise.

With ethernet connection and IPVanish running through Fire Tv device, I'm concerned that the 10.25 download speed is dangerously low on the borderline for buffering and dropped connection when streaming, especially when streaming IPTV live sports. Would it just be best to use the WiFi connections?

As an interesting side note, the Verizon FIOS internet only Gigabit advertised plan speeds of 940 dn / 880up show even slower test speeds than the Comcast internet and tv plan of 220 dn / 20 up when wired (connected via ethernet).

those speeds are unreal for R7800 as i have 200Mibit i can see 200+/-Mbit, as well i ve test it before on 1Gig interface and WAN performance goes up to 700-800 with no SFE turned on with SFE i get 940-970 all tested on wire side...
On Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz i can see those 200 i have and i D/L torrents with 18-19 mega bytes per sec witch is very fast for me...so it must be a problem with ISP or so ...did you check your cable, i have FTP 5SE that comes from ISP, and i have static IP that comes from a router or switch i believe, over PPPoE/dslmodem it would be a bit slower but not that slow as you stated...
to measure i used couple of tests like DSL speed, speedof.me and okla as well i performed some file transfer over WAN side router to PC
sadly as i stated before i do not have any VPN so im not that acquainted to VPN speeds on R7800 in general VPN speed sucks and i prefer to run VPN on PC level instead...

With the laptop online and the TV streaming a Kodi add-on - both connected via WiFi 5Hz - I ran a speed test from a different site (Ookla) on the laptop:
140.77 dn / 22.38 up. Much faster results compared to the speed test site based in the Kodi app. Is this to be expected?

In addition, I just now (9:30PM EST) ran the Kodi app speed test agian on the TV.
IPVanish connected: 91.22 dn / 12.33 up
IPVanish disconnected: 111.26 dn / 12.55 up

Kodi app speed test with Ethernet wired:
11.25 dn / 12.02 up

Then, I disconnected the R7800 from the Comcast router/modem and wired the Fire TV box directly to the Comcast router/modem and ran the Kodi app speed test:
IPvanish connected: 40.07 dn / 12.19 up
IPVanish disconnected: 239.14 dn / 12.11 up
