Hello all,

First let me apologize for posting. I think I am confused on the particulars of my broadcom Linksys e3000 router as I'm a novice in this area. I can not seem locate the information I acquire or I'm unfamiliar with the deep range of products that need assistance with DD-WRT. I am currently running DD-WRT v24-sp2 16785 (04/13/11) big.

I am posting this and seeking a firmware upgrade to protect my home network and devices from KRACK. From my understanding my e3000 has small NVRAM that requires bin files smaller than 8mb or smaller than 7995.392 Kilobytes or 7995392 Bytes. Which I may need the broadcom_K26 or broadcom_K3X dd-wrt.v24-XXXXX_NEWD-2_KX.X_mega-nv60k.bin when the 33525 build become available I would use that?

Sorry for the newbie levelness of my question!

Tl;DR: DD-wrt patch/upgrade to protect against KRACK for e3000.

The last few releases like 33492 Broadcom K3X do not fit. If a newer build is released and K3X 8MB is too big, I have read that the Broadcom K26 are still getting the security fixes on newer builds. But I too perfer to use Broadcom K3X builds on my E3000. I hope BrainSlayer can "clean-up" the Broadcom K3X 8MB Flash version so they fit for flashing.

Or you can wait for a K3.x released build after 33529. The size has been decreased but not released yet.

Great news redhawk! Out of curiosity, was BS not aware of this k3x issue already? I was perusing an Atheros build thread the other day (for a coworker's WNDR3700v1 gateway on OEM f/w!) and saw that BS was heavily engaged throughout the thread. I don't recall him posting in any recent Broadcom build thread. There seem to be many longstanding Broadcom issues that are never 'known'. Another current example is quarkysg's findings/fixes for some of the DIR-868L (and 880):

It would seem he posts builds to the public but never checks what we are saying about those builds. He didn't know about the size issue.

I'm personally glad you guys posted. Last night I was able to flash dd-wrt.v24-33525_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3000.bin (see ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/10-17-2017-r33525/broadcom_K26/) successfully on my e3000. If you're hot for the fix you can try that. I'll probably wait for the mega builds to slim down (assuming it happens) and then try a mega. I tried the mega build for rev 33525, didn't think to check bin size, but ya it's not taking (good news: it's easy to tftp the mini back on afterward). I'll probably add this as feedback on the 33525 thread too in a few here...

Its slimmed down with starting with 33529 build. Its showing as 7.25M on my disk....and its running well so far. But my tests are limited to Client Bridge mode.

Looking at the timeline, I can't tell: What got removed? Or did the simple swap to some new components help reduce the size so much?

BTW, redhawk0, joining the chorus in the build thread for r33525, thanks for doing this. I fully expected r33215 to be the last ever flashable build for the e3000 and the like.

That is an excellent development model!

Is there a download link for the build you mention?

Thanks.

I tried dd-wrt.v24-33525_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3000.bin, but virtual interfaces do not seem to work any longer,as they did on DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/13) mini - build 21676. Has anyone gotten them to work successfully with the new build?

I did not realize this either but dd-wrt.v24-33525_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3000.bin is just the initial build. After which, you have to go to one on the nv60 builds.

This is as per

https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=994136

I haven't tried it yet but plan to with no indication of when the k3x builds will be brought down to the appropriate size.
