Upgraded from a truly ancient (March, 2013) build to version 33525; this is now running on a v1 TL WDR3600. Looks to be operating perfectly. Thanks, all. This thread was helpful.

I upgraded from a 2016 build to b33525 yesterday. Everything is working fine except the OpenVPN server.
This is the error I see in the logs:
New openSSL will not validate certs unless generated using SHA.
Your ovpn server error is consistent with old certs made with md5.
You will have to generate new keys for your ovpn server & clients.
Download openvpn-install-2.4.4-I601.exe from here -
https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
When you install be sure to check the box to include Easy RSA management scrips.
Build your server keys and however many client keys you need and store in a safe place.
You can then uninstall the openvpn mess from your windowsy computer if you don't need it....
Thank you mrjcd.
I was thinking in the same lines, in fact, I have got the latest OpenVPN client
(with easy-rsa tools) installed in the PC. Need to re-generate the keys and
certificates and try it.
EDIT: I just want to confirm that after regenerating the keys with latest
OpenVPN application for Windows, DD-WRT OpenVPN server is working like a
charm.
i should have looked first and then posted as i just found it and flashed it, looks good but still no 5ghz wifi light even though 5ghz wifi is up and running fine
