Hello, I'm new to networking, please be patient. I believe I have done all the research I am able to and not been able to resolve the issue, so I am asking for help. I'm sure I'm making some obvious mistake, but I do not have enough knowledge to recognize the problem or troubleshoot further to research more.

I have a modem/router combo: netgearC7000v2 running manufacturer firmware V1.03.08(up to date)
I have a router Dlink DIR-882 A1 running DD-WRT v3.0-r51506 std (01/25/23)
My internet connection speed test is as follows: https://i.imgur.com/JrJd0US.png
DL ~684 Mbps
Upload ~24.8 Mbps
However, the C7000V2 has bad buffer bloat issues and no options to address it.

My goal is to turn Netgear C7000V2 into modem only mode, then use the DIR-882 as the router with some very basic QOS to address the bufferbloat. These will be the only two networking devices, everything else will be PC/Phones. I will connect from C7000V2 LAN port to DIR-882 WAN port as per my understanding, then have some pcs/phones connecting to DIR-882 through either LAN ports or WIFI.

As of now, the C7000V2 is on router/modem combo mode and works, but does not have the qos options I'm looking for. I have turned it to modem only mode and confirmed it works and has internet access when doing so.

However, I have not been able to get internet on the DIR-882 in any capacity. In addition, the WIFI speeds on the DIR-882 is exceptionally low compared to the C7000V2. C7000V2 has ~400 mbs wifi speed, but the DIR-882 has 52.

I would like to resolve both problems, first and most important being able to connect to the internet and have a functioning network again.

For the DIR-882, I have gone through the wifi tutorials on the DD-WRT website and copied their recommended settings - please see below.

My basic setup is as follows: https://i.imgur.com/hJerZp5.png

setup networking tab is as follows: https://i.imgur.com/2msiucX.png
IPv6 is enabled in it's tab, otherwise default settings.

These are the QoS settings I plan on using(disabled until I get everything working): https://i.imgur.com/2436DRM.png
I'm trying to optimize for gaming, so no packet loss and latency remains stable and does not increase even when under load - with my current network setup, we have noticed that we get packet loss or unstable ping for games when the network is under load from netflix or other streaming services, despite the high bandwidth we have.

I was unable to get internet access with default settings, so I looked up a guide and now have the above screenshotted settings, however it is still not working.

With this basic network setup I have tried two things:

1) I have tried turning the C7000V2 into modem only mode and plugging it into the DIR-882. The cable was from C7000V2 LAN port to DIR-882 WAN port. I plugged a laptop into the DIR-882 and had a phone connected to DIR-882 wifi. No other devices into the C7000V2.

For the DIR-882, I tried leaving its settings as default as well as changing them to my current settings. I also tried setting its gateway to 192.168.100.1, which is the C7000V2s default gateway IP when in Modem only mode. I was able to connect to the C7000V2s interface through the DIR-882, but not receive internet. I also tried restarting both units, together and separately. Once nothing worked, I unplugged the DIR-882 and confirmed that I was able to receive internet access by plugging directly into the C7000V2 with only 1 device, confirming modem only mode was functioning correctly and had internet access.

2) Resetting the C7000V2 back to router/modem combo and got my default, functioning network back running. C7000V2s ip in combo mode is 192.168.0.1. I set the DIR-882s IP to 192.168.0.2 and there are no conflicting IP with other devices. I then tried connecting a LAN port from the C7000V2 to the DIR-882 WAN port. The rest of my network is functioning, and I can connect to DIR-882s wireless network or LAN port, but cannot get internet in any capacity on any device. I can access both routers interfaces while connected to either one. I tried setting DIR-882s gateway to 192.168.0.1 but this did not allow internet access through the DIR-882.

Please help me solve my two issues and get this working. First, getting the DIR-882 internet access, then finalizing the intended network setup with the C7000V2 as modem and DIR-882 as primary router.

Second, please help me resolve the low wifi speeds on the DIR-882, it's almost 10x as slow as the C7000V2s wifi speeds even with the recommended settings. When I researched this router it was listed as a great candidate for DD-WRT and had no indications it would struggle with speeds up to 700 Mbps, which is my theoretical cap, although I usually receive approx 500 Mbps. Thank you in advance for help.

Pick a different LAN IP address subnet. Default on the Netgear is 192.168.0.x/24. Try leaving the DD-WRT default of 192.168.1.1. Your WAN should be auto-dhcp.

I have tried this and it did not change anything.

That is what my WAN is set too.

Have still not managed to find a solution. I can't get internet even by trying to connect it via ethernet.

Probably going to just return the router. Not sure if it's defective or dd-wrt just doesn't function, but have never had this much trouble setting up a network before.
