Thank you BS, blkt, & Devs !
Interesting that your router have a higher kernel than mine (Linux 4.4.302-st40 #9649 SMP Mon Jun 26 12:52:12 +06 2023 armv7l)
After two days it's solid stable without errors in syslog, and wireless speed transfer is the best using 5ghz 80mhz.

Router/Version: WRT54G v2.2 File/Kernel: DD-WRT v3.0-r53112 std-special Previous/Reset:DD-WRT v3.0-r46412 std-special (04/21/21) / YES Mode/Status: Web Issues/Errors: VLAN not working
Trying to setup VLAN bricks the router until I do a hard NVRAM reset.
Steps:
1. upgrade the firmware using web browser. with NVRAM reset selected
2. hard reboot
3. setup default user/pswd
3. head directly to switch config and enable VLAN + move port 4 to VLAN4
4. Save config
5. reboot
6. router never comes back alive.
I have tried multiple firmware so far and the latest working one is the r46412
