Hi there.
I have just installed DD-WRT on my AC56U, hoping that it would have an option to hibernate the USB storage as the stock firmware keeps the HDD running at all times and, to my surprise, there is no such option on DD-WRT.
I tried to run a few command lines via SSH to get the spindown option working but nothing works.
I then read that ASUS Merlin will have a simple button to turn on/off hdd hibernation.
Now, I cannot revert to stock! I succesfully started the router in recovery mode but the ASUS Firmware Utility simply doesn't see the router. I reset to factory, I changed the IP address on Windows to 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.5, 192.168.1.12 and NOTHING.
Please help.
When I click the UPLOAD button on the ASUS app, it counts to 30 seconds then gives me this message:
just be sure to download the correct ausus fw and use there recovery tool. but I am thinking the mini cfe b.l will load the stock ausus fw, but maybe i am confused..
Be sure to do a hard reset before you flash and the cfe is a pita on the rt-ac68u - the only button that works is the f.w upload...the clear nvram and reboot do not work for me on the rt-ac68u.

You are using the Firmware Restoration utility for Windows. I don't use it.
I just press and hold Reset Button for 30 seconds while powering on the router. This will make an Asus router boot into CFE MiniWeb Server, in which you can upload firmware. Just set the IP address of your PC To 192.168.1.x then surf to 192.168.1.1 using a browser. You will need to use a LAN cable to connect your PC's LAN port to a LAN port (not WAN) of the Asus router.
