How do I get my router to stop kicking wireless clients when the repeater isn't connected to the host wifi?
I am using an Asus AC66U running DD-WRT v3.0-r53633 giga (10/14/23)

Have you set up any limits on the number of connected devices?

What wireless settings do you have?

Firstly, I do not have any limits setup.
As it would be doing it even when repeater is connected if it was wireless limits.
And it isn't, it only does it when not connected to the host wifi/internet.
And what details do you need, and how do I grab them for you?

What mode are you using to connect to the host wifi?

Some modes will not allow clients to stay connected when that connection is lost.

I have it on repeater, as it's the only mode I know will be able to serve the host wifi to the clients connected to the router.

You cannot, as this is a repeater when it does not have an upstream connection it cannot connect clients.

That can only work in routed mode setup

Please tell me, how do I set that up?
I need to be "hand held" with/for the instructions.
I'm not confident in my ability to not eff up my router when following non hand held instructions for something like this.

My R6200v2 BDCM with wl0 2.4 GHz set up as WLAN Repeater
and wl1 5GHz set as AP.

Clients remain connected to wl1 even when the connection to my R7800 host is lost.
And I can disconnect and reconnect no problem.

Probably not if set up as repeater bridge, never tried it as RB is considered a hack and not recommended.

Of course it does no good to stay connected if using the internet is the goal.

The problem with routed mode setup is , well that it is routed, meaning it is on another subnet.

You can open up the firewall and set a static route so that you can reach clients from everywhere but only with IP address.
As there are different subnets there is no seamless discovery

AP doesn't let you connect to a wireless host.

Repeater doesn't help, because it's what's kicking people without an upstream.

Repeater Bridge is worse because I require a local lan, which requires dhcp.
And Repeater Bridge requires turning that off on the local lan router.

Station, Station Bridge, and Station Bridge (Routed) don't help because they require having another router as the host.

WDS doesn't help because it requires the host and router to be the same model, but the host is a phone hotspot.

OLSR doesn't help because this is a singular router that is the only thing connecting to the host.
