Good day,

I bought a flashed router several years (about 4-5 years) ago. I was recently told it does not auto update and is very outdated.
I would like to keep the settings I currently have if possible but I do not know, and am unable to find, what the current most stable build is for this model.
I want to flash it through the web interface. I can also flash through CLI but I do not know how.

Any help and links would be appreciated.

Thank you.

last build...
https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2024/02-27-2024-r55209/netgear-r7800/

use the dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin file..

as we dont know any details about your router set up..

you can try to update with no reset ..if you need reset just use the button hold on for 10sec..
do not use save settings file form different builds...!!!

every router page, you can export or print to PDG via FFox browser or similar
than. copy paste values to router is easy..i guess lot of us are doing it, even today Razz

The router setup is pretty vanilla. I have a custom DNS to cloudflare, some portforwarding for consoles and wifi settings but besides that I do not think I changed a lot. I want to add a wireguard connection in the new setup but nothing major is changed. Maybe I tweaked the wifi radios but I can't think of anything else.

I know there is a "export settings" value but does that work when you are upgrading from a 4 year old build? I used to use this on old DDWRT setups but I have never even heard of PDG Confused Haha. Is there an easy way to do this? In either FF or brave?

Save / print to PDF* is what was intended to be typed. You can also save as mhtml file in Chromium-based browsers.

I found it and made PDF backups. But when I try to upgrade through the WebUI it starts the countdown but then I get "the connection was reset" on HTTP and something about a security verification error on HTTPS. The router does not turn off or reboot. If I refresh I get the update page again.

I can't update...

The firmware I have installed is DD-WRT v3.0-r41811 std (12/28/19).

Can anyone help with this because I have never seen this before.

CLI Flash: 'cd /tmp' then 'wget {file URL}' (http only) or 'curl -O {file URL}' (http, https, ftp) 'write {file} linux' then 'reboot'.

so, go to SSH or telnet (CLI), than

cd /tmp

wget http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2024/02-27-2024-r55209/netgear-r7800/dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin

write dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin linux &

reboot

this should do !

x2 on CLI upgrade. You can also:

Code:
cd /tmp
wget -O firmware.bin http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2024/02-27-2024-r55209/netgear-r7800/dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin && tail -f /var/log/messages
reboot

which will automatically do the upgrade process for you. If you have any USB attached, Entware installed, it is probably a good idea to disable / unmount / remove first on such an old build.

Resolved it by using edge instead of Firefox. The layout looks messy with several "undefined" tabs that do nothing but all of my settings carried over without any restore required. I can't get PIA OpenVPN to work at all. I did not bother with wireguard because it is above my knowledge but OpenVPN is usually easy to set up but it does not connect. It might be a bug.

No, you probably need to read the updated guide in the Advanced Networking forum and make adjustments to your configuration as there have been many updates since your previous build. Firefox ESR / Quantum portable and Pale Moon Portable are the least problematic in these situations from old builds to new builds. Private browsing mode, no extensions or add-ons loaded is also recommended.

Sticky: OpenVPN guides and documentation

There is much discussion related to PIA and OpenVPN, use the search function:

You're right it might be some extension or privacy setting I have in Firefox that blocks it. Edge has less, thats why it worked.

The OpenVPN wasn't a big requirement since PIA has complicated setups to make Wireguard work on dd-wrt. I tried to set it up like I previously did but that didn't work, after that I tried a guide but that didn't work either. It is for the Guest network (I don't know what the heck people do when they are a guest but I'm still responsible, so that's why I had openvpn running). If I want it for myself I'd want wireguard because I have fiber speed, openvpn throttles it too much, but there are very few guides for it since it requires scripts to run.
