I've just updated my GSv7 too (micro v24 RC5) but there're 2 problems:

1. The signal is weak, compare to linksys original firmware.

2 Repeater mode is not working, the router can receive signal from another AP (listed in "wireless nodes" as 00:13:10:F4:27:C1 - eth1 N/A -89 -105 16 6%) but can't transmitt it again.

RC5 Work fine with Repeater mode
From URL:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19727126-DDWRT-and-repeater-Bridge-mode

repeater bridge uses same subnet - you have to assign an IP to the bridge LAN address on the same subnet of your AP

give your Virtual WLAN a different SSID than the main WLAN (for ex: DanLan and DanLan-Rpt1)

I used WPA TKIP on both the WLAN dna VWLAN

I used the WIKI pretty much verbatim

Restore Factory Defaults on Secondary(DD-WRT) Router
Connect to the secondary router via wired or wireless client keeping in mind the dd-wrt default settings for dhcp pool and ssid
Open the Wireless -> Basic Settings tab
Wireless Mode : Repeater Bridge
Wireless Network Mode : Match Primary Router
Wireless Network Name(SSID) : Match Primary Router
Wireless Channel : Match Primary Router
Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
Network Configuration : Bridged
Save Settings
Virtual Interfaces Section
Add
Wireless Network Name(SSID) : Different from Primary Router
Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
AP Isolation : Disable
Network Configuration : Bridged
Save Settings
Open the Setup -> Basic Setup tab
Connection Type : Disabled
IP Address : 192.168.1.2 (Assuming Primary Router IP is 192.168.1.1)
Mask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (again assuming Primary Router IP is 192.168.1.1)
Assign WAN Port to Switch : Checked or Unchecked - your choice
Save Settings
Open the Security -> Firewall tab
Uncheck all boxes
Disable SP1 firewall
Save Settings
Open the Status -> Wireless tab [redhawk - If this step is performed the repeater bridge may not work - skip to Step 8]
Wiviz Survey (or Site Survey)
Join Primary Router
Continue
Open the Administration tab
APPLY Settings (In V24 after 07/04/07...use Save for previous versions)

You can increase range by maximizing power to 100mW. No cooling is required at this power

Try 8db Home-made Antenna from following UR:

http://www.lincomatic.com/wireless/collinear.html

I am using it. Very effective in range and performance. Change only One of the antenna with this. Make Receive Antanna to 8db and Transmit Antenna to Router's own 2-3db Antenna

Do you have any idea? Should I upgrade to RC6.2? Another problem that the security in repeater mode, i can't set WPA even WEP because it make the signal unstable (ping 192.168.0.1 30 loops lost about 7-Cool

So I bricked my new router Shocked

This what I have wrt54g v8.00.2 stock firmware.

This is what I did.

Downloaded the files from Tornado's folder
and saved them to my desktop
vxworkskillerv8-v3.bin and wrt54g v8 v8.00.0 fw. bin

setup tftp ready to go.

set the router to factory default
Upgraded the flash to the vxworkskiller
I then got a white screen with black border that said "upgrade successful rebooting" there was an ok button I pushed it and the screen stayed there. I waited 30 seconds the screen was still there.
I then tftp the wrt54g v8 v8.00.0 fw. bin to the router it said " successful" I then waited 3 minutes and powered off the router and back on.
The cisco light did not come on and the far right light just flashed along with the port light i could not get back into the router from my Internet explore screen.

Should I have waited for the white screen that said rebooting to change to a different screen before tftp the wrt54 file?

what do you think.

Hello there, i was able to set up my wrt54GS v7 with the dd-wrt.v24_micro_wrt54gv8.bin thats the RC5 right ?
I was mad because at first when i did the firm upgrade froms linksys original the singnal range drops noticeable a lot using the ddwrt firm using as an AP, but i decided to take that router to my girlfriend house (2 houses next to mines) and set it up as a Repeater, that way she got from 0 to 1 signal bar in the porch (without Repeater) to an amazing steady 4 to 5 siganl bar inside the entire house, surfing net, downloading more or less at the same speed that in my house, i say is cool and enough for surf, download music and see youtube videos but ....

The problem is here ..... I have my original DSL modem/router as the host and the WRT54GS v7 with the dd-wrt.v24_micro_wrt54gv8.bin installed.
The problem is that my girlfriend want to play in shes Xbox 360 live but dont pass the NAT step, so it said the NAT is strict, I want to open it so i can play.
I know you are going to say open the ports 88 and 3074 and etc but i really did read about every method and nothing, Like static ip etc. nothing work to me !!!
Can someone point me to the right direction ?
I need to downgrade/upgrade the firmware ?
please help me THX

TheTechnician:
You have done a good by upgrading with dd-wrt...bin
enable UPNP in your router. I think it would solve your problem with XBox

BiggyBoy:

The method for installing dd-wrt...bin firmware was in first post.
You have to power of after vxworkskiller then power on and wait for 2 minutes
then again power off and on your router
then TFTP dd-wrt firmware

Venice:
Increase power to 75
Change channel to other (it shouldn't interfere with other devices)
If you don't connect any Wireless Device with router, there may be TX Errors. Check after connecting some Wireless Client

@biggy boy

The firmware you flashed or tftp'd was the original linksys firmware, not dd-wrt, try flashing with dd-wrt

What LOL I did ok i'll try but did I do the steps right? So you do not have a copy of the dd-wrt in your Tonado file? I thought you had your own version there.

Thanks

No, I put that there in case someone had a hard time finding that version of the original Gv8 firmware, its not online anymore, I think a different version is there now.

Looks like you did all the steps right.

@shoaibbhatti

Just remember, I modified the V3 Killer and reversions to self reboot on certain steps, powering off or unplugging at the wrong time could cause big problems.
