Looks that Linksys released or about to release new versions of popular WRT54G series; if anybody comes across these new models, please report:

FCC ID numbers to look for:

Q87-WRT54GV81
Q87-WRT54GV82
Q87-WRT54GSV72

We can't say for sure that they can be flashed with dd-wrt.

Heya,

I just got a wrt54g v8.1, and so far I'm not having any success.

I'm able to flash with the official linksys firmware [the one that came in the box is the same as the one I can download from the website, 8.1.08].

I'm not able to flash vxworkskiller. I've tried vxworkskillerGv8.bin, vxworkskillerGv8-rev2.bin, and vxworkskillerGv8-v3.bin. Every one of them gives the "Upgrade are failed!" message.

Not that I expected it to work, but I attempted to flash the latest dd-wrt.v24_micro_wrt54gv8.bin directly and it didn't work either.

Looks like I was just cursed with picking one of these up. Any news on compatibility?

Are there any differences that you can spot right away, processor, flash, etc ? need some info ?

And which one do you have exactly ?

What do I look for exactly? I've never owned or used a WRT54G before. I bought a WRT300N for my main router, I just picked this up because I needed a bridge.

Do I need to open it? Cuz I don't see screw holes but if you tell me what to do I'll gladly help out.

The firmware for v8.1 device is 1.80 megabytes. Firmware for the v8.2 device is 1.59 megabytes. This leads me to believe that they are 2 megabyte flash crippled neutered pieces of shit just like the wrt-54gv8. FUCK LINKSYS! FUCK 2 MEGABYTE DEVICES!

Why get all bent out of Shape over it. if you were a company and only needed 2 meg to put your firmware on the router why the hell would you pay extra money to put a bigger one on there it does everything they sale it for everything they advertise it for why hate them for makeing cuts on crap they dont need...

they could care less about us or about 3rd party firmware why would they want to release a box that anyone could flash to DD-WRT and do crap that they sale there box's for 3x the money. to them we are the assholes.

Thats what we need. Some photos, description of the processor and flash, etc..

It could be as simple as changing the header, I will try and look at the firmware today, see what I can find.

I also have the Linksys WRT-54G ver.8.1 (FCID: Q87-WRT54Gv81) and not able to flash using vxworkskillerv8. Getting error when flashing…similar to this form posting using the flash procedure that’s documented:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/How_To_Flash_the_WRT54Gv8

I was able to open the router and copied down the Broadcom chip info if still needed to debug:

We need to see the boot up form a serial console on the 8.1 the GS7.2 should be ok, but cannot promise anything, or a wholeflash backup from the Gv8.1

I'm not getting bent out of shape, do a search and see how many posts there are from people who have crippled devices. Either people who use crippled devices are more dumb in general and seem to need more help, or it's the shitty device they are using. I'm putting my money on it being the crippled device........but then again, they are complaining about problems on a not fully supported device and don't get a fully supported one, so hmm, maybe they are more dumb in general. (Not directed at any one in particular, just the crippled device crowd in general.)

As I said before in the WRT54G v8 and GSv7 flashing instructions, that not so simple.
Here in Brazil (and in major part of south america) we only find neutered Gs or GSs in stores. There are no Buffalo's models or GLs. We cannot either buy those in Ebay, due to the heavy taxes that would have to be paid.
That's why support for these neutered models is so important. They are the only choice we have.

Not sure how to capture the serial boot up or wholeflash backup. Any suggestions on how?

Thanks,
Randy
