I have a WRT-54G and I have successfully flashed DD-WRT v24. I can connect to the router via ethernet cable and wirelessly. However, I cannot connect to the internet using the Comcast modem either directly connected to the router or wirelessly.
I have not made any changes to the router since I did a hard reset. Is there somewhere I can check my configuration settings?
I have Cable internet from Insight, but recently Comcast bought or took over Insight as my TV welcome screen now says welcome to Comcast internet. So with that aside….
I was initially having trouble grabbing the WAN IP after properly flashing a NEW router for my home.
My problem was solved when I cloned the MAC address of my Old routers WAN port.
Although I don't know why it worked after that, as I believe you are not required to register your MAC with Insight / Comcast

Try to perform a hard-reset of your cable modem.
I've seen the motorola cable modems hold the last-registered mac address and refuse to assign an ip address if the mac address has changed.
For motorola surfboard modems - press & hold the button down for 60 seconds - 20 seconds into this process, unplug the power to the modem, wait 10 seconds and replug in power, continue holding the button down for the remaining 30 seconds. release button, unplug power, wait 10 seconds and replug in the power - motorola modem should have internal memory flushed out, and will record new mac address in internal nv-ram, and will contact auth servers and assign your router a valid IP.
Other cable modems may vary - research it, you should have success.
Ok so I'm having a similar issue. I have comcast, I have stp set to disable and I have it set to dhcp. I have reset the modem and router several times but it is still unable to pull an IP. The only thing I have not tried is to clone the MAC address, but I have doubts that will make a difference since I am able to plug directly in to the Modem with my PC and get an IP.
The router worked fine before the upgrade, it is a version 6 wrt54g. When I get the chance to try the MAC cloning I will post the results, but in the mean time if you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears.
Would hate to have to go back to the original firmware.

Try powering off your cable modem. While it is off hook up your router to it, make sure the router is off when doing this. After the modem has been off for about 1 minute power it up. Once all of the lights come up on the modem power up the router. It should grab an IP and be functional.
[EDIT] OOPS! I should have said to power the router up first then the cable modem. That should allow the cable modem to register the MAC address of the router! Sorry.
I have a linksys wrt54g v6 flashed with the latest generic micro version of ddwrt and an RCA/Thomson cable modem from comcast. I've had comcast for a while now and it always takes several reboots and/or reset button pushes to finally get the router to get an WAN ip address from the modem. It was easier with the original linksys firmware and ddwrt seemed to make it more difficult.
What worked was cloning the MAC from the previous router and one more reboot of modem and then router. Rebooting the router alone didn't do it. Go figure!

Just wanted to say this worked for my Comcast internet connection. Didn't have to 30/30/30 reset the dd-wrt linksys (except for when I initially flashed with the dd-wrt firmware, of course). What I did was this:
1) With the linksys on, I unplugged the ethernet connection to the cable modem
2) Performed a 30/30/30 hard reset of the modem.
3) Waited a minute or so until I had a solid green "Cable" light on the modem
4) Unplugged the cable modem
5) Plugged the ethernet cable from the linksys to the cable modem
6) Turned the cable modem on
7) Went to the admin page of the dd-wrt linksys and the router successfully obtained an ip address
What's kind of weird is that on the cable modem the "PC" light is off... but it works so who cares!
FYI, this is the hardware/firmware I'm using
