I have just ordered a WTR54GS router from CompuDirect, probably not the smartest idea but it was a kind of spur of moment. However there was something I noticed about this one that I am not sure about.
If you take a look at there picture it looks like it uses an actual cord and not the pop out prongs that you see on the wiki. Does this indicate a specific version or something?
Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew about any modifications for the WTR54GS, anything is helpful I am just looking for a way to improve it besides updating the firmware.
I have received my WTR today and I am trying to flash it but I am having issues with it. When I try to use the Sercomm Update Utility it fails and is unable to run, does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm very interested in taking the plunge to DD-WRT, but I'd like to have a backout plan if I don't like where it takes me. Is there any progress on posting revert firmware for the router, as well as process/procedures?
Many thanks for the DD-WRT code. It's quite amazing, and brings new life to otherwise mediocre hardware!

Did you get your device working? I'm getting mine like next week or so. Just want to be sure that dd-wrt DOES work on it, since well, no point in getting it otherwise... _________________ 1. Asus WL-500W, DD-WRT v24-sp1 ( 07/27/08 ) mega

Hello,
I was a happy dd-wrt user for around 6 month when i decided to upgrade to v24sp1. Things get ugly when i realized i took the incorrect version so my wtr54gs sometimes reboots and reboots with no aparent explanation.
So i tried to downgrade to a v24 when the router got brick.
Tried from holding the reset button for 10 min ( just in case ) from unplugged with no luck.
this v1 have a jtag printed on the pcb so im planning to buy some jtag cable from ebay but first i need to know if somebody knows if that is possible with this router or there is other options before going to deep.
Please let me know what i can do to bring this cutie alive again.
Tanks.

I think the WTR54GS is an unrealized product. Having 2 wifi connections as well as wired ethernet.... the only thing I've wanted on it is WPA2 client for wifi bridging as well as VPN tunneling back to home.
Thanks for the work on this. Will be testing it this weekend.

I recently picked up a WTR54GS, and was working fine with the factory Linksys firmware.
I followed the instructions in the first post of this thread EXCEPT I had to get the Sercomm utility elsewhere because the one in the link provided was BSOD'ing on my XP SP3 system. Sercomm finally updated, and it also said that it was verified successful.
After rebooting the WTR54GS, waiting 3 minutes, I cannot ping 192.168.1.1. PC IP = 192.168.1.10, firewall off, connected using Ethernet cable, and ping results for the past hour had been "Request timed out". WTR54GS LEDs are all lit, power is orange, and there is the occasional flicker when the ping packet is sent. I also tried the Sercomm again, but now it cannot find it.

I had a DOS window open constantly pinging 192.168.1.1 with a timeout of 1 msec.
I also had the TFTP app all setup and ready to go. Server=192.168.1.1, password=<blank>, path was to dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin
I pressed the Reset button for 30 seconds, unplugged it, waited 10 seconds, then applied power while the reset button was pressed and kept it depressed for 30 more seconds.
A minute or so later, the DOS box showed a reply with TTL=100!! I immediately started the TFTP, and the flashing took less than 5 seconds.
After a couple minutes, DD-WRT booted up and was accessible via 192.168.1.1.
Cheers everyone, and hope this helps someone else.

Am trying to finish flashing the WTR54GS with the above directions. Everything is going smoothly, but when I start Sercomm's Upgrade Utility, the Device List is blank, no MAC addresses show. I'm plugged in to the router, it's showing a connection. How can I make it show up on the list to flash?
I have an old WTR54GS that I've had for several years. I think it's probably the v1 version. I just ran across this thread and I'm planning to flash it to dd-wrt. I haven't used dd-wrt before and since this thread started months ago, I want to make sure I'm using the latest firmware and procedures before I start.
Should I follow the instructions on the first page, or has anything been updated? Does anybody have a revert procedure in case I need to go back to the original f/w?
OK, I flashed my v1 to the RC5 nokaid version in the OP. Everything looks good. Now I'm trying to figure out which version to upgrade to. I assume that any of the Std versions will work? Any versions that I should avoid?

I had the same problem (I think). I just renamed the folder to something simple without dashes and hypens and it worked.
I flashed to the v24_nokaid_generic version. Everything looks good, except I can't get the repeater mode to work. I can connect the WTR up to my other router and I can connect my PC to the WTR, but I can't get connected to the internet. Anybody have luck using this combination successfully?
So I'm just absolutely clueless to what's going on here but I would like to get DDWRT onto my V 2.1 router so I can use it as a wireless receiver for my xbox 360.
I'm not computer illiterate but I don't know a thing about wireless routers so I would love some help. I would appreciate a step by step detailed instruction because I couldn't even follow the first step of the guide which tells me to set up IP address.
Could some one please help me? Either through IM, PM or email?
