I want to connect in client mode to a target AP that is using WEP SHARED KEY.
My hw is a WRT54GL v1.1 and fw is DD-WRT v24 (05/20/08) std.
The only way I could accomplish that is using the following command from telnet:
wl join MyTargetAP key xxxxxxxxxx amode shared
No way to do it via GUI interface.
Am I missing something in the GUI ?
Second, how can I store the configuration so that my WRT54GL will associate to the target AP after reboot ?
Thank you

P.S.
I attach the wireless settings page of the target AP

1.You should use a newer Version.
2.WEP is not safety! Plz use WPA1+AES or better WPA2+AES.

First read this about "How to flash a wrt54 g/gs/gl"
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39529

Here is a newer version of dd-wrt:

I know about the weakness of wep, but that's not the matter.

I also know how to flash a wrt54.

In the beginning I've tried with v24 sp1 (latest version) but it has a bug that doesn't even retain the wep keys you type in. Furthermore, nothing has changed in the GUI for wep encryption.

Any other suggestion ?

There are newer versions. The path given would take you to a newer version that fixes the WEP entry problem. You should do what was suggested. SP1 is not the latest, or a particularly good build.

Once you download that version, the WEP will be fixed, and you'll be gold.

Hi, I have flashed my router with 10991 build.

Bug in wep keys retention has been fixed but I still encounter my problem that I can't set up SHARED wep key with GUI. My only way to associate is to telnet:
wl join D-Link key xxxxxxxxxx amode shared
It seems "amode" parameter is not settable via GUI.
I hope I'm wrong and I'm missing some flag around ...

Any developer here ?

go to Advanced Wireless Settings and change Authentication type to "Shared Key". Apply.

It should work. It is just basic WEP...

Try saving your commands as startup or firewall script.

Yes soulstace,
that's just what I've done, but I wonder how such a good firmware is not able to accomplish a very basic job via GUI.

Of course we can't consider it as a bug, but I don't think the most of users are familiar with wl command and all of it's parameters.

Don't you think this lack is worth a little implementation ?

Thanks a lot for your attention and time.

Do you use Firefox as Browser to configure over WebGUI?

Please try it with Internet Explorer and report.

Hi wjoerg,
always used IE for "delicate" tasks on my routers (including this).

P.S.
I don't think D-Link uses a "custom" implementation of wep, so I think my issue is quite common and easily verifiable/confirmable by anyone.
