I assume you are trying to flash a fw using tftp. If so then you can follow instructions on page 2 in this thread.

Hey!

I've read through this forum, though I still don't manage to get DD-WRT working on my Belkin F5D8230-4.

I have tried everything, but I'd like to see DD-WRT working, anyone who can explain to me, if the standard wifi of the router works?

And how I can flash the firmware? Please point me to a step-by-step tut for this router or try to explain it, please.

Regards,

Fabian

Standard wifi /the one that comes with the router. Airgo chip/ doesn't work.
TFTP flashing instructions are on page 2 in this treat.

does DD-WRT v24 voip firmware ( with milkfish) work with Belkin F5D8230-4 ver1001?

1. I was able to flash dd-wrt v24 sp1 mini firmware to Belkin F5D8230-4.
2. cannot tftp dd-wrt.v24_voip_generic.bin thru tftp.
3. from dd-wrt gui, i was able to upgrade dd-wrt.v24-voip_generic.bin but it just bricked after reboot.
4. reflash back to dd-wrt v24 sp1 and router comes back alive.

I am only interested in using this router for sip/voip phones.
can anybody help or have any suggestions how to get the dd-wrt voip firmware to work with Belkin F5D8230-4?
Thanks.

Your problem is the size of the fw. It fails if the size is greater the 3.5 MB. You can use fw-modification kit to remove unused files from desired fw.

Hey. I have the V2000 version of this router. I was wondering, if it would be possible to load the dd-wrt.v24_atheros-wifi-9120_crippled.bin posted by andreev on page 8, using the stock wifi card ?

I know the wifi wouldn't work, but i'd still like to use that router as a wired internet gateway, dont care if i lose the wifi function on it; it would still be much better with DD-WRT than the stock belkin firmware.

Thanks ! cheeb.

hi

IS AR5416 the only 802.11n mini-pci card for this router ?

I could not find any other 802.11n mini-PCI card on the internet. There are numerous mini-PCIe solutions, but very
few mini-PCI solutions.

It would be great if some of the users could point to some
manufacturer links..

I believe the best way to figure it out is to check the Madwifi version used by dd-wrt. And then verify the list of supported hardware included in this version

Will [this] wireless [card] work ?

This card appears comparable to an AR5008/AR5416 card I just bought and successfully installed in my F5D8230-4 (v1002). I was able to get it (sort of) working using the firmware linked earlier in this thread, but of course I'm having the same issues tusc and others identified (33% packet loss and no N-support).

Subsequent posts indicated that the 33% packet loss issue is fixed in later DD-WRT builds, but due to the "3.5MB limit", there appear to be no precompiled versions available, and you have to compile your own.

Could someone please point me in the right direction to figure out how to compile my own atheros build? (If someone would be willing to share their already-compiled build, I'd appreciate that even more!)

Thanks to all who posted helpful information in this thread! I had investigated DD-WRT for my Belkin router a couple years ago, but had given up. Glad I found this thread!

Well, okay, I also have one other major problem: I cannot get my DD-WRT-based F5D8230-4 to auto-configure via DHCP from my Motorola Surfboard cable modem. It worked fine when it was running Belkin firmware, and my PC can also auto-configure itself when I plug it straight into the Surfboard, but the DD-WRT router steadfastly refuses to configure (WAN tab of Status page shows 0.0.0.0 for all IPs, etc.).

My config: Ethernet cable is plugged from Surfboard into WAN port on router. On basic setup page, WAN connection type is set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP". STP is Disabled (which was the default). I've done the 30/30/30 reset, as well as pulling power to both, repowering cablemodem, then repowering router. Have tried various combos of pressing "Release DHCP" and "Renew DHCP" buttons. All no joy. (MAC address of router remains as it came from the factory.)

Any other suggestions?

Check the Internet LED on the router. It must be ON or blinking. If not then you may have a hardware problem. It could be the cable between the modem and the router /most likely/, power supply or WAN port /I don't believe/. If the the LED is ON or blinking then I'd suggest the stable version /dd-wrt.v24_atheros_wifi.bin from 27-07-08/. I am using this one. When you update the fw select After Flashing reset to defaults option and be patient. It will reboot a few times until is done.
