The JTAG on http://www.jtagtest.com is used for chip testing. USB JTAG NT is used for program the flash based on MIPS core. It will support more CPUs in the future. It has SPI flash support (Not using JTAG).
I hope I didn't disrespect you in my above post...I didn't mean to and it wasn't my intent.
I was just trying to point out that many of us don't have a great need for JTAG on a regular basis (I acutally use it quite a bit...generally once or twice a week...due to dd-wrt development testing) but the cost of a full blown setup is prohibitive for the average user.
I appreciate you working with us to find a cost effective solution.
Thanx...

Hardware itself is not expensive, the software put together is a lot of work.
Looks like there is a need for open source FTDI JTAG solution. That way the price can be quite cheap. Many need to contribute to the project. I would still expect the cost will be close to $10 to build.

Yeah...Tornado and I had talked about his today. If we can get the cost in the $10-20 price range...that would be the range where anyone that needs to use JTAG could purchase (or build from kit). Many of us still have older hardware (parallel ports) but any of the newer units coming out...people are finding themselves stuck.
Thanx again for your input regarding a USB JTAG solution.

So in a nutshell the product at www.usbjtag.com will work with WRT54G based routers? Like the ones in my sig?
where do you see that it will work??
I believe this is from a discussion I was involved in a couple months ago.
I have a Digilent USB JTAG adapter - I even offered it to Tornado to see if he could work with it.
To my knowledge - there is not a USB based adapter that will work.
I had asked if a USB to parallel adapters will work with the current parallel interface JTAG
I never got an answer to that
Usb to parallel WON'T work.. I've tried it with different devices and drivers.
I thought T~ was working on the interface for a USB adaptor...
Actually.. The available usb jtag adaptors will work with a router but is not as simple as using T~'s utility.. You need to specify the flash chip params in hex.. Size, start, length, etc.
I don't have a usb jtag adaptor.. I have just been reading the docs on available devices.. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]

I have used this adapter on Windows 7 beta 64bit and his 64bit driver, and after some configuration, I was able to achieve some impressive flashing speeds, although this was because of his programming, not the usb adapter.

Hello all,
I think we need usb jtag support in Tjtag, As tcharron and LOM have pointed out, there are a few issues. First, no really standard, everyone make there own drivers, etc..
Like LOM pointed out, it would be best to find a cable supported by OpenOCD or Urjtag, and possibly the AVR project, since to source is open, we may be able to borrow from it.
The Blackcat device looks interesting, I will have to look at it more closely.
dellsweig,
If I were you I would buy at least ont of the 6 pin MTE cables and or make one, so that you can easily connect to the correct pins on boards that have a strange or different type pinout. Also, send me the example source and info on the adapter that you bought so I can look over it. These MTE cables are good for the parallel port adapter as well.

So, we need to find an adapter like that metioned above...or make our own, capable of being constructed by hobbiest like myself. It would make sence for me to shell out some bucks for a good adapter, but not for most people or users that only do this once or twice.
Also, without having the device, it makes it very time consuming trying to write for it.
Looks like to me it will work with the linksys wrtG models. _________________ The New Me
